Penthouse in Sant Just
Barcelona 2018
The attic of the house was not used due to several problems: a terrace that was too exposed, divided by the stairwell, a considerable uneven floor and walls with different angles.
We created a brick planter with the same treatment as the rest of the walls to integrate it into the space. Eugenia Newport was chosen because of its rapid growth and its ability to privatize. In this way we managed to privatize it.
We have taken advantage of the original sectorization to create three spaces with three different uses. In the dining area, a pine and iron pergola has been built with identical fronts to privatize and protect from the sun.
In the living area, a built-in sofa has been designed accompanied by a triangular planter, this way the space is regularized. The vegetation raised is aromatic and herbaceous to create an area of great comfort. In the most private part, a stainless steel pool has been built accompanied by vegetation.
A gray technical porcelain floor has been installed on the floor, leveling the entire terrace at the same level. We take the opportunity to pass all the irrigation and lighting installations.
The original stone balustrade has been restored to make it stand out as much as possible. To do this, the rest of the walls have been painted cream.
Black terracotta pots have been exclusively designed by the ceramist l’Esbarzer.
The ground floor of the house has a narrow patio lower than the house with very little light. Our intervention has been based on equalizing the floor levels with a light gray porcelain tile, which together with the light cream color of the walls, gives a lot of light to the patio. The use of the patio is only scenic, so tropical vegetation such as Kentias, Strelitzias, Fatsias has been proposed in order to create an exuberant space that gives depth to the home.
All plant species have been planted in conical black terracotta pots designed by our creative team and manufactured by l’Esbarzer.
As in all our projects, all the plants are connected to an automatic irrigation system.
